Lola's Story

We purchased Lola in good faith because we wanted to finish her AKC Championship and then show her as a special in 2009. Lola is the epitime of the breed standard, and has a temperment sweeter than sugar. A few weeks before we were to pick Lola up for her to be ours, we got a call that she was accidentally bred. We weren't very happy but wanted Lola bad enough we agreed to still take her and pay the Stud fee (which on second thought we should not have paid a stud fee since we didn't buy her pregnant and didn't ask for her to be bred) However, YOU LIVE AND LEARN. When Lola was 6 weeks pregnant we got a call that we had to meet someone at the Monticello shows in NY, 3 hours from where we live the following day because the owner did not want her whelping the litter at her house. At the time, I didn'tthink much of it.

The Tragedy begins

We picked up Lola and managed to finish her championship the following weekend. 2 weeks later Lola easily delivered 4 beautiful babies--Healthy we thought. The babies were a bit slow but being our first Pyr shep Litter we weren't that alarmed although we did call the seller and her breeder to see if there was something we could do to wake up the babies. The following two weeks one by one each pup became paralyzed, could not eat, stand up or hold their heads up and they utlimately had to be put to sleep all 4 of them. We sent the bodies to Cornell who tested for all your normal chemicals they could have been exposed to thorugh their mother and nothing came up, they had all the signs of someting happening to them in the first trimester of the moms pregnancy but without knowing a specific toxin we could not rule in or out what it was that killed them. Meanwhile, the seller was so uncooperative accusing me of poisoning the pups and their mom ( who is doing fantaztic now) would give no answers and had no sadness or remorse for what happened to these pups. Needless to say, I was more than heartbroken having to hold these blind and paralyzed 3 week old pups while they were put to sleep has left an everlasting break in my heart that I never want to go through again. and No wonder the seller wanted her out of her house so quickly. I find it very hard to believe that she knew nothing of what the mom was exposed to or it she had something to do with it herself. There was no concern for the pups or the mom, just out of control screaming and contradictory emails blaming me for everyhing. I know better, so she can blame me all she wants, however, if she was really concerned about the bitch she would have kept her until she whelped and dealt with the issues herself.

Lola has gotten over the stress and heartbreak of loosing her pups

with a lot of work on our part she also now has learned how to play with toys and the other dogs. She is a very calm loving bitch who has learned to lay down and relax no more circling for hours any more. this beautiful girl has come a very long way in such a short time and is nothing of the devil we were told she was. Lola is here to stay, whether or not the co-owner/seller refuses to take her name off of Lola so we can someday breed her again and make a wrong a right for Lola, she will still stay here with us.

Some Breeders are not what they seem to be

In this case, we were really taken over, however in the long run, we have a beautiful little girl named Lola who is now loving life and not stuck in a kennel all day long, she is with humans who love her all the time.

Without naming names- you know who you are

I felt compelled to exlain the truth of Lola's Story and how much her seller could care less about her and the 4 dead babies that never should have happened. We have a litter of aussie pups now who are perfectly normal and healthy and active, which proves Cornells theory that the dog (Lola) must have been exposed to some type of toxin in the early stages of Lola's pregnancy when she was still with the seller. It is very sad that there are people out there that are just greedy and the animals are just a commodity to them. It just goes to show you how important it is to really check out a breeder before purchasing a puppy or an older dog. Insist on seeing all of the dogs clearances as well as vet records (from the vet)and if the bitch has been bred before, where are her pups now and how are they doing. I hope others will learn from Lola's story.
